This pineapple has personality. Bobble stitches create the bumpy skin texture, and a pair of crochet sunglasses makes it the coolest fruit on the shelf.
Materials
- Worsted weight yarn: Golden Yellow (120 yds), Leaf Green (60 yds), Black (10 yds for sunglasses)
- Size H/5.0mm crochet hook
- Polyester fiberfill stuffing
- Yarn needle, scissors
Step-by-Step
The Pineapple Body
- With golden yellow: Magic ring, 6 sc. (6 sts)
- Round 2: 2 sc in each st. (12 sts)
- Round 3: Sc, bobble in next st around. (6 bobbles, 6 sc)
- Round 4: Increase round: 2 sc in next 2 sts, bobble around.
- Continue alternating increase rounds with bobble rounds, spacing bobbles in a diamond pattern to mimic real pineapple texture.
- When the body reaches 5 inches tall, begin decreasing. Maintain bobble pattern through decreases.
- Stuff firmly. Close.
Bobble stitch instructions: Yo, insert hook, pull up loop, yo, pull through 2 loops. Repeat 4 more times in same st (6 loops on hook). Yo, pull through all 6 loops.
The Leaves (Crown)
- With green: Attach at the top center. Ch 10.
- Working back down the chain: sl st, sc, hdc 2, dc 2, hdc, sc, sl st into the body.
- Repeat for 8–10 leaves around the crown. Vary chain length (8–12) for a natural look.
- For inner leaves, make shorter chains (6–8) and position them between the larger outer leaves.
The Sunglasses
- With black: Make 2 circles (magic ring, 10 sc each). Join them with a 3-stitch bridge.
- Sew sunglasses to the front of the pineapple.
- Optional: surface stitch a tiny smile below the glasses.
This guy stands about 7 inches tall and makes a great summer desk buddy.
