This alien headband features two springy antennae topped with googly eyes. It’s quick, hilarious, and guaranteed to get laughs at any costume event.
Materials
- Worsted weight yarn: Lime Green (80 yds), White (10 yds), Black (5 yds)
- Size H/5.0mm crochet hook
- 2 pipe cleaners or floral wire (for antennae structure)
- Polyester fiberfill (for eyeballs)
- Store-bought plastic headband (or crochet your own)
- Yarn needle, scissors
Step-by-Step
The Headband Cover
- With lime green: Ch enough to cover your headband (measure the band length and add 2 inches). Sc in 2nd ch and across.
- Work 5 rows of sc to create a tube. Wrap around headband, seam closed with whipstitch.
Antennae (Make 2)
- With lime green: Ch 20.
- Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch and each across. (19 sts)
- Row 2: Ch 1, turn. Sc across.
- Fold the strip in half lengthwise, seam the long edge to form a tube.
- Insert a pipe cleaner through the tube. Bend the top 2 inches into a curl.
- Sew the base of each antenna to the headband.
Eyeballs (Make 2)
- With white: Magic ring, 6 sc. (6 sts)
- Round 2: 2 sc in each st. (12 sts)
- Round 3: Sc, 2 sc around. (18 sts)
- Rounds 4–5: Sc around.
- Round 6: Sc, sc2tog around. Stuff. Close.
- Pupil: With black, magic ring, 6 sc. Fasten off. Sew to center of white eyeball.
- Sew an eyeball to the curled tip of each antenna.
Finishing
- Sew the antennae to the headband at the crown area, about 4 inches apart.
- Bend the antennae so they wobble and bounce with head movement.
Optional: add a third antenna in the center for a classic “little green man” look. Or make minion-style single-eye antennae in yellow and blue.
