Materials
- Worsted weight yarn: Red (40 yds), Gray (20 yds), Skin tone (5 yds)
- Faux fur yarn or fluffy white yarn for beard (10 yds)
- Size G/4.0mm crochet hook
- Small amount of polyester fiberfill
- 6-inch piece of twine or ribbon for hanging loop
- Yarn needle, scissors
Step-by-Step
The Body
- With gray: Magic ring, 6 sc. (6 sts)
- Round 2: 2 sc in each st. (12 sts)
- Round 3: Sc, 2 sc around. (18 sts)
- Rounds 4–6: Sc around.
- Round 7: Sc, sc2tog around. (12 sts)
- Switch to red. Rounds 8–14: Sc around.
- Round 15: Sc, sc2tog around. (8 sts)
- Rounds 16–20: Sc around. This creates the long tapered hat.
- Fasten off, weave tail through remaining sts, pull tight.
The Nose
- With skin tone, magic ring, 5 sc. Fasten off, leave tail.
- Sew nose to the front of the gray body section. Tug slightly to make it round.
The Beard
- Cut 15 strands of faux fur yarn, each 3 inches long.
- Attach strands below the nose using a lark’s head knot through the fabric.
- Trim beard to desired shape—rounded, pointed, or wild and bushy.
Finishing
- Stuff body lightly before closing the bottom.
- Thread a hanging loop through the top of the hat.
