Here are three distinct ear saver styles so you can find the most comfortable fit for your mask setup.

Materials

  • Cotton worsted weight yarn (scrap amounts)
  • Size H/5.0mm crochet hook
  • Buttons (2–4 per saver, depending on style)
  • Yarn needle, scissors

Step-by-Step: Three Styles

Style A: Classic Button Strap (8 min)

  1. Ch 6. Sc in 2nd ch and across. (5 sts)
  2. Work even in sc for 6 inches.
  3. Create a buttonhole at each end: ch 1, sc in first st, ch 2, skip 2, sc in last 2. Next row: sc across, filling the ch-2 gap with 2 sc.
  4. Sew buttons opposite buttonholes. Done.

Style B: Braided Comfort (12 min)

  1. Make three separate chains, each 7 inches long.
  2. Braid them together, secure ends with a knot.
  3. Sew a button to each end.
  4. This style distributes pressure across a wider surface and is ideal for 12-hour shifts.

Style C: Double-Adjustable (15 min)

  1. Work a 7-inch sc strip (5 sts wide).
  2. At each end, work 2 buttonholes spaced 1 inch apart instead of just one.
  3. Sew 2 buttons per end. This gives two tightness settings for different mask styles.
